This year, for the first time, I’m participating in the National Novel Writing Month. I’ll be putting Maudlin aside for the time being (although I’ll be working on it up until November) and start writing my YA novel Angel. You can follow my progress here, and become a writing buddy if you’re participating, too!
National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) is a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to creative writing. On November 1, participants begin working towards the goal of writing a 50,000-word novel by 11:59 p.m. on November 30. Valuing enthusiasm, determination, and a deadline, NaNoWriMo is for anyone who has ever thought fleetingly about writing a novel.
The novel I’ll be writing, Angel, tells the story of Angelique Asteriae, an Angel who has been sent from Above. Her destiny is to find the Demon sent from Below and make peace with them, in order to keep an impending war at bay that would destroy the land Between – the land of mortals.
But Angelique has a horrifying vision – the Demon she has been sent to reconcile with cradling a dead girl in his arms, his face smeared with the girl’s blood. Angelique must put her emotions aside and befriend the creature she believes is a killer in order to protect both the girl in her vision, and the three Planes of existence.
Angel is the first book in the Above and Below duology, later to be followed by Demon, which will both tell the story from the Demon’s point of view, and continue the story to the consequences of the climax.
I will be posting the prologue once the NaNoWriMo event has begun.
