Starting My Novel Over

During November when I participated in NaNoWriMo, I felt like I was on a roll – each chapter ending on a pleasing word count. Unfortunately, this was through my last weeks of the school year, which were the most intense and stressful I’ve had yet. I worked on my novel instead of homework – major assignments and test revision which would impact my grades more than anything – and I daydreamed about my characters in class instead of taking notes.

In one of the final weeks of school, I realised there was no way I could keep going on like that, and I had to put my novel aside to knuckle down on some school work. This unfortunately sapped me of any motivation I had to do anything, let alone write another 25,000 words, so the story fell unfinished and without much work until about mid-December, when I decided to edit what I had before going ahead with the rest. An Art Post on a Book Blog

As well as a reading and writing fanatic, I am also a fantasy art enthusiast, and I’ve become obsessed with quite a few artists recently. Four of them have stood out for me, because I can imagine their creative flair brightening up the imagined cover of my WIP novel, Angelic. (This post is kind of related to books, still, isn’t it?)

My overall favourite artist is Selina Fenech (who is also one of my favourite authors), who paints the most magical artwork, including fairies, gothic, fantasy, mythology, and more. Selina runs her own online shop, Fairies and Fantasy, which sells various products, including art prints, bags, necklaces, and even dolls, from not only her talent, but that of various other artists, too.

Here’s a few of Selina’s works that remind me of Angelic, even if in a small way:

Angelic (Chapter One)

Okay, fine, I’ve decided to let you read the atrocious first draft of the awful first chapter. I take no responsibility for burned eyes.

Have fun with my talentlessness.

The night was unnaturally still as she wondered if the trees knew the world was about to meet its end. Read the rest of this entry »

Angelic Playlist

The other day when I was writing, I found myself procrastinating (shame on me), so I decided to do something productive for my story, even if I wasn’t writing it. I decided to create a playlist. Admittedly, I didn’t (and still don’t) have much of an idea what songs would go in the playlist, but I have given it my best shot. Luckily, and completely coincidentally, I stumbled upon Send Me An Angel, what I like to call the lead single of the soundtrack.

Below is a list of the songs I included in the playlist, which have links to Youtube so you can listen to them. Can you guess the mood of the story?

Angelic (Prologue)

Angelic

The world began as one. Before humans had taken our first breath, or the sun had made its first rotation of the Earth. Before the Battle.

For many years, the Angels and Demons had lived together in perfect harmony, equals in all but appearance.

Their governing system was also just and fair, both an Angel and Demon ruling the lands. Thus, the world was at peace and prosperity.

Until the darkness.

Angelic

A few weeks ago in my post about participating in NaNoWriMo this year, I mentioned I was writing a book called Angel, which is the first book of the Above and Below duology. Since then, however, I have slightly changed the title to Angelic, and altered the series’ name to the Envoy duology. I felt like sharing a few things about it.
